WEBINAR - ecosystem service Grazing Panel

webinar - Ecosystem Service Grazing panel: Three Perspectives on Building a Climate Resilient Business with Small ruminants

Cost: Free

Additional Details

Join us on August 6 at 10 a.m. PDT for a panel discussion with three ecosystem service graziers working across diverse ecoregions, scales, animal mixes, and clientele. We will discuss a wide range of topics, including pricing contracts, managing client expectations, predator management, what they've learned on their journeys (including what they would do differently now), and how to get started in this emerging field. We will reserve the last 15 minutes for participant questions.

Meet the Panel:

Brittany Cole Bush (aka “Cole”), an entrepreneur, educator, and consultant in the fields of climate-smart agriculture, land stewardship, and prescribed grazing with sheep and goats, is the owner/operator of Shepherdess Land and Livestock Co. Cole has developed and managed the treatment of thousands of acres on private and public lands, using carefully managed grazing as an ecosystem service for ecological enhancement and fire hazard reduction throughout California for over a decade. She is also dedicated to training new entrepreneurs and practitioners in land and livestock through a vocational training and workforce development program, the Grazing School of the West.

Will Lyons was looking for a way out of a career in television production when a few goats landed in his lap. A conversation with an old friend in North Carolina led to an interest in service grazing, so a few more goats were purchased, and Will and his wife Grace began Northwest Grazing in White Salmon, Washington. They now are growing a herd of Kiko/Spanish nannies and working to educate and build a client base in their community on the principles of responsible land stewardship and fire fuel reduction. Will grew up in Kentucky, watching the land surrounding his family’s farm turn into golf courses and brick mansions, which instilled a strong desire to help people value land stewardship. Will and Grace’s grazing journey has been incredibly fulfilling, frustrating, fascinating, ‘furiatin, fun, fickle, and frazzled and he is happy to share what they have learned along the way.

Madison Throop, owner and shepherdess at Salt of the Earth - Holistic Land and Livestock Management, has dedicated her career to sustainable and effective land stewardship. With five years of experience in prescribed grazing and two years operating her own business, Madison manages her flock of sheep to assist clients in fire fuel mitigation and noxious weed control.

Madison is passionate about educating others on the advantages of prescribed grazing, striving to raise awareness about this eco-friendly practice. As her business grows, Madison plans to share her knowledge and experience with a wider audience. She looks forward to future opportunities to provide in-depth training and education on the benefits and techniques of prescribed grazing

Please register here to join us live or to receive the recording. We look forward to seeing you then!
